How to Repair a Pitch Mark

How to repair a pitch mark correctly using our divot tool.  Check out our video below.

A pitch mark is a small indentation in the grass that is caused by the ball landing on the green at a high speed.  These marks can be unsightly and can also affect the way the ball rolls on the green.  Failing to repair a pitch mark (or ball mark) can cause lasting consequences to the health of the turf.  An unrepaired pitch mark can take weeks to heal, and the damage could be an entry point for weeds.

The correct process:-

  1. Insert a pitch mark repair tool just outside the back of the ball mark.
  2. Pull the turf towards the centre of the hole.
  3. Repeat this same motion on all sides of the hole.
  4. Gently tap the repaired area.

This action stretches undamaged turf over the ball mark providing instant recovery and does not damage the grass roots.  As a result this ensures the green remains in good condition for future golfers.  Goodbye pitch mark!

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced golfer, repairing a pitch mark is an essential part of the game of golf.
